Sunday, April 11, in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, there was a report of suspected drug hitmen who killed nine people. Since the Mexican drug kingpins escalated their war over smuggling routes, this is to be one of the deadliest attacks in Honduras. Armed with automatic weapons, masked men opened fired in the streets of a poor area of Tegucigalpa, Honduras’s capital city, on Saturday night. The men continued to break into two houses killing seven men and two women. Tegucigalpa's police chief Mario Chamorro told reporters "these deaths were provoked by territorial disputes between drug traffickers." The article stated that since last year the amount of drug violence has been rising in Honduras, which is a key country for the transportation of Colombian cocaine heading to the United States. The article also read that this escalating violence is scaring off tourists and causing worries in the United States, but as a yearly traveler to Honduras I have never heard anything about drug violence issues.
